Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism

This is an NHS England approved, standardised training programme designed to ensure that everyone working in Health and Social Care in England has a clear understanding of Learning Disability and Autism.

The training was created in response to the tragic death of Oliver McGowan, an 18-year-old whose preventable death highlighted the urgent need for better awareness, communication, and support for people with a learning disability and autistic people in care settings.

This training helps health and social care staff to:
Enhance knowledge, skills, and confidence to support people with learning disability and autistic people safely and compassionately.
Communicate effectively with individuals and their families.
Avoid assumptions and listen to each person’s needs and preferences.
Create enabling, neuro-affirming environments where everyone can thrive.
