Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training - Tier 2 (2 Day)
This is an NHS England approved, standardised training programme designed to ensure that everyone working in Health and Social Care in England has a clear understanding of Learning Disability and Autism.
This Train the Trainer course equips professionals with the skills to deliver the Oliver McGowan Tier 2 Mandatory Training, ensuring staff across the sector receive high-quality education on Learning Disability and Autism

Course Overview
- This course is designed for professionals aiming to become facilitators, enabling them to deliver the 1-day Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training to others in the sector. The training is delivered Accredited Lead Facilitators and Experts with Experience as co-trainers.
- Please note that only Lead Approved Trainers can train facilitating trainers and co-trainers with lived experience to deliver the Tier Two one-day training. Participants will need to demonstrate their knowledge and confidence in learning disability and autism throughout the course and complete quality assessments to demonstrate competence. This means that you would be able to run the training but would not be able to train other main facilitators or co-trainers to run the course in house or externally.
Pre-Requisites
- Oliver’s Train the Trainer course focuses on awareness and understanding rather than treatments or specific interventions. It equips staff with the necessary knowledge and skills to train others in delivering the Oliver McGowan Tier 2 mandatory training, ensuring positive health and social care interactions for individuals with a Learning Disability and/or Autism.
- Upon completion, participants will become approved trainers via Health Education England and receive a unique PIN to deliver this training.
- It is a requirement that approved trainers collaborate with trained and approved co-trainers to deliver the Oliver McGowan Tier 2 Mandatory training effectively.
Mode of Delivery
- The training is delivered through face-to-face workshops to ensure an interactive, engaging and impactful learning.
- Each workshop is supported by an experienced and accredited Oliver McGowan Trainer along with two accredited co-trainers with lived experience.
- Workshops can be delivered internally as an in-house course or externally as an open course.
